What is financial aid?
Federal Student Aid (FSA) consists of grant and loan programs provided through the U.S. Department of Education that are designed to assist students and their families with the costs of higher education.
Which Lionel programs are eligible for financial aid?
The following are eligible programs:
- Master's Degree In Exercise Science
- Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science
- Associate of Science in Exercise Science with an Emphasis in Personal Training
- Master Trainer certificate program
Be sure to check on the requirements for all funding sources you intend to use. Eligibility will vary for active-duty military, veterans, and other beneficiaries.
Am I eligible for financial aid?
In order to use Federal Student Aid (FSA) funds to attend Lionel University, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Have a high school diploma, GED or state-recognized equivalent
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible resident noncitizen
- Have a valid Social Security Number*
- Have registered with the Selective Service between ages 18 and 25 (if male)*
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Be enrolled in an eligible program
*If you are an eligible resident noncitizen and do not meet these criteria, please contact the Financial Aid Office.

How do I apply for financial aid?
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA takes about 30 minutes to complete. To determine which funds you are eligible for, you will be asked to enter information about your income and taxes paid, so please have your most recent tax returns on hand to help you complete it. Check out this video for more detailed guidance.
Enter our Federal School Code to send the results of the FAFSA to Lionel University: 042434. You will also need to complete the FAFSA for the correct Award Year in order to receive funds for the terms you are attending.
What financial awards can I expect?
Lionel University participates in two Federal Student Aid (FSA) programs: Pell Grants and Direct Loans. This video may be a helpful introduction to both.

To put students in the best position to succeed after graduation, you are highly encouraged to borrow only the amount necessary to complete your educational program.
How do I pay my tuition if I’m not using aid?
Payments can be issued on the Populi portal, please login and go to the financial tab and click on the “make a payment” button. You will see you also have the option to set up recurring payments.
Are payment plans available and how do I set one up?
Payment plans can be set up on the Populi Portal under the financial tab. Students have the ability to manage the payment plans by setting up the best option for them. Please contact the billing office if you have any questions.
When is tuition due?
Tuition is due two weeks after you have been invoiced.
Do I have to pay for my whole degree upfront or is it broken down?
You do not have to pay for your whole degree upfront. We do advise that you make sure to pay each invoice by the due date or by the end of the quarter to avoid late fees and or your account being locked.
Do I need to pay for textbooks?
No! A digital version of the textbook is embedded in each course at no additional cost. Unrestricted access is available seven days prior to the start of class and throughout the quarter.
How do I transfer my prior college credits?
Lionel University completes transfer credit evaluations free of charge. Once you complete your application, simply request that your past schools send your official transcripts to registrar@lionel.edu. The application will provide information on what to request and where to have it sent, and an assigned Admissions Advisor will be standing by to assist you with any questions you have along the way.
Can I transfer in ISSA or other personal training certifications?
Yes! Students may transfer in one personal training certification into the Master Trainer Certificate program. Two personal training certifications can transfer into the Associate Degree and up to Four into the Bachelor’s degree program. Certifications may be from ISSA, ACE, NASM or select other NCAA-accredited certifications. Students must also complete a competency exam with a 75% or better for each certification that is transferred into their program.
What types of military benefits do you accept?
Lionel University is a Military FriendlyⓇ school. We allow students to use their veterans benefits, MyCAA, Tuition Assistance and CA. Please contact military@lionel.edu to get your questions answered.
Can I submit my JST or CCAF for transfer credit evaluation?
Yes! Your military training/experience can be submitted for transfer credit evaluation. Please go to the relevant link below to request that an official transcript be sent to Lionel University.:
What is your international Student Tuition?
Our international student tuition rate is $440 per credit hour.
Do you require English language proficiency testing?
Yes, All instruction at Lionel University is in English. Lionel University does not provide English language services. International applicants whose native language is not English must submit evidence of English proficiency through one of the exams listed on our web page.
What can a Career Service Specialist do for me?
Once you connect with a Career Services Specialist, they will be able to provide you with custom career-planning to help you reach your career goals. This assistance can include one-on-one coaching, resume reviews, or interview preparation.
When should I start using Career Services?
You should begin working with Career Services your first semester at Lionel University, by updating your resume, exploring careers, and starting to network.
When do I need to start looking for an Exercise Science job?
The best way to find a job is to build and maintain a professional network of contacts. Start building your network early in your career so when you need to find a job, you have contacts to draw from. Most communication jobs need to be filled immediately. If you apply too early, you may have to turn down a position in order to finish your degree. We suggest you start applying two to three months before your desired start date.
